The main activities of EMBL Hamburg include research in structural biology, the provision of experimental facilities to the external research community, and advanced training for scientists. The EMBL Hamburg Computer Group plays a big role in supporting these activities.

- Maintenance of an existing Oracle database and assorted tools
- Maintenance of web applications and local web services
- Improving documentation and test setup of the EMBL database systems
- Supporting the local administration team with data extraction for statistics & other purposes
- Assisting in the development of the database system upgrades and migrations
In addition to a qualification in computer sciences, a minimum of 2 years work experience focused on web application development technologies based on JAVA, JSP, JQuery, Oracle and Java Application Server is required. Good working knowledge of Unix/Linux, Apache, PL/SQL as well as LDAP and Kerberos is essential. Very good knowledge of English is required. In addition to excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a desire to work in an international research environment is expected.
