We are growing quickly and are seeking an enthusiastic recent college graduate or junior engineer who would like to work alongside an established team of engineers within our Zettlex inductive encoder division based near Cambridge.
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary design team working on new product development. You will be involved in the complete design life cycle from concept through to design, validation and final release into full production. The ideal candidate would possess knowledge of several different manufacturing processes and be able to translate requirements into mechanical design data suitable for manufacture.
In return for these attributes we offer a key mechanical design role within our engineering team. You will be working alongside talented design engineers developing a wide range of sensor designs in a friendly working environment. You will follow pre-determined gateway processes and use engineering principles and disciplines to support the design of sensor products with varying levels of complexity.
The ideal candidate will be a confident and organised self-starter with excellent communication skills capable of building relationships with engineers of all disciplines.
- Manufacture Support – Liaising the manufacturing team with quality related issues regarding part manufacture
- Customer Requirements – Interpretation of customer requirements and translation into product design
- Creating Mechanical Drawings - Interpreting requirements and translating into mechanical manufacture drawings and data
- Design Analysis - Carrying out tolerance analysis and other calculations to validate design suitability
- Product Testing – Evaluating prototype product for form fit and function
- Collaboration – Working as part of the engineering team, frequent communication and daily collaboration to ensure all aspects of project are being addressed
- HNC qualified or equivalent in mechanical engineering or recent apprenticeship experience
- Experience producing manufacturing 2D drawings containing Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance, finish and material specifications to BS8888:2017 (1 year or more preferred)
- SolidWorks modelling experience (1 year or more preferred)
- Grasp of materials selection for a range of mechanical products
- Experience of product development and transfer of new products into manufacturing
- Ability to multitask, time manage and work independently
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Sense of urgency with personal commitment to the success of the business
- Excellent PC skills in MS Office including Outlook, Excel and Word
Other skills that would be advantageous for this post include:
- Practical manual turning and milling prototyping experience
- Knowledge of a wide variety of component manufacturing processes and techniques
- Prototype assembly, evaluation, characterisation and testing experience
- Experience of operating and using FDM 3D printers
- Knowledge of linear and rotary contactless position sensing techniques
- Basic electronics knowledge of components and ability to follow simple circuits
- Ability of soldering through hole and surface mount components
- Ability to write Visual Basic based macros/scripts
- Excellent analytical and presentation skills
